A Rich History and Diverse Culture

For centuries a variety of cultures have called Louisiana home and contributed to the state’s deep and colorful history. French, Spanish, German, and other European cultures have storied histories in Louisiana. Some of the state’s settlements are among the oldest in the United States and the area was also home to a large Native American population. Museums, landmarks and historic trail sites can be found all over the state.
